Cape Town, with a Somerset West option
Garden wedding venues in Cape Town: choose the whole day
Three different garden settings, with the practical questions that turn a pretty lawn into a workable wedding plan.

A garden wedding can mean vows under trees, drinks on a lawn or the entire meal outside. Before choosing a venue, decide which part of your day needs the garden. A beautiful ceremony setting does not automatically have space for a seated reception.
These official-source examples show different ways to use an outdoor setting. Welgemeend and Steenberg are in Cape Town. Vergelegen is in Somerset West, further out in the wider region. We checked their published information on 14 October 2026.

Venue options to explore
Welgemeend: a garden alongside a city reception
Welgemeend’s wedding package includes exclusive use of the manor house, gardens and patio for eight hours. Its FAQ gives seated limits of 80 inside and 60 on the veranda. Those are separate spaces, so do not add them together to assume one continuous reception layout.
The garden is described as a place for photographs and canapés. Ask where a ceremony for your group would happen, what furniture it needs and which space would replace it in poor weather. Check whether setup and breakdown fall outside the eight-hour event period.
Read Welgemeend’s wedding package and its venue FAQ.
Steenberg: lawn vows followed by a restaurant meal
Steenberg in Constantia lists ceremonies for up to 40 on the Villa Lawn and up to 100 on the Manor Lawn. Tryn offers seated wedding receptions for up to 50. A group of 50 therefore needs a ceremony arrangement other than the Villa Lawn, even though the seated meal fits the restaurant limit.
This format may suit a couple who wants the garden atmosphere without moving every part of the evening outdoors. Ask which lawn and restaurant area would be reserved, how guests move between them and whether the quoted arrangement includes exclusive use.
See Steenberg’s official function and wedding spaces.
Vergelegen: choose the ceremony and reception separately
Vergelegen’s 2026 brochure offers the Octagonal Garden, Camphor Forest and Lake & Mountain Venue for ceremonies or pre-dinner gatherings. Its Riverside Conservatory is a separate reception structure. Choose both spaces when asking for a quote, rather than enquiring only about the estate as a whole.
The brochure specifies backup power for the kitchen and building, with event power excluded. Ask what the ceremony sound, lighting and reception equipment need, who supplies that power and what it costs.
Read Vergelegen’s official 2026 wedding brochure.
Walk the guest route before deciding
- Check shade at the proposed ceremony time and where guests can wait comfortably before the vows.
- Walk from parking to the lawn, reception and toilets. Ask for an alternative route for anyone who cannot manage steps, grass or gravel.
- Confirm where chairs, microphones, catering and drinks stations go. Include supplier access rather than leaving it for the wedding week.
- See the rain alternative with the same guest count and furniture. Ask when the decision to move is made and whether another booking could occupy it.
Ask about the garden you will actually use
Send a likely guest count, date window and a sentence describing the format: for example, a lawn ceremony followed by an indoor dinner and dancing. Request a plan naming each booked space, the hours, the backup and the complete cost. That gives you something more useful to compare than three photographs of green lawns.
