Hermanus and the nearby Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Wedding venues in Hermanus: ocean views or a valley estate?
Two different settings and a clear distinction between ceremony, banquet and cocktail capacities.

When you search for wedding venues in Hermanus, decide whether the ocean must be part of the event or whether you prefer the nearby valley landscape. A town hotel and a private estate can offer very different layouts, privacy and overnight arrangements.
The Marine is on Main Road in Hermanus. Bona Dea is in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near the town. Their official pages were checked on 14 October 2026. We have kept each published guest limit attached to its event format.

Venue options to explore
The Marine: match the named room to your meal
The Marine’s wedding venue page lists the Pavilion for 60 at a banquet, 80 cocktail-style or 120 with a marquee. These are alternative arrangements, so a 100-person seated wedding needs a discussion about the marquee rather than an assumption that the ordinary restaurant layout fits.
The Greens outdoor area is listed for 120. The Sun Lounge is listed for 32 at a banquet or 80 cocktail-style, and the pool area for a ceremony of 30 or 80 cocktail-style. A smaller indoor room may therefore not serve as the full backup for a larger outdoor gathering.
Ask for a plan pairing the ceremony and reception, plus a reserved alternative that works for your entire guest count. Confirm marquee installation, hiring costs, access and power if that is the format being quoted.
See The Marine’s official wedding spaces and format-specific capacities.
Bona Dea: an exclusive estate near Hermanus
Bona Dea describes one wedding at a time with exclusive use of the estate. Its spaces include the Garden & Treed Terrace, on-site Chapel and indoor Ballroom. The published overall maximum is up to 250; ask for the actual ceremony and reception layout rather than applying that figure to every room.
Its official FAQ says wet-weather backup space is included. Confirm which room is reserved, its seated capacity and how the switch works for your event. The venue also lists accommodation options, but the page does not promise enough beds for every reception guest or that all rooms are included in hire.
Read Bona Dea’s official venue overview and inclusions. Request a written quote: the page shows differing starting-price statements, so we have not treated either as a confirmed price for your wedding.
Choose the setting that matches the experience
- Ocean-facing hotel: check which views belong to the booked room, whether other hotel guests use adjacent areas and how outdoor moments move indoors.
- Valley estate: check the exact farm location, the overnight plan and where guests without rooms will be collected.
- Both formats: walk the route from parking through ceremony, reception and toilets with your guests’ mobility needs in mind.
- For a larger group: request one layout with tables, dancing, bar and suppliers rather than relying on the largest published number.
Build the arrival and departure into the quote
Give guests the exact property address and identify accommodation near it. Ask whether a room block is available, when it must be confirmed and whether rooms carry separate cancellation terms. If transport is needed, confirm a pickup point and return time before making the guest plan depend on it.
Finally, compare the full cost for the same guest count and event hours. Include the chosen reception format, backup, mandatory rooms and any extra structures. This makes the two settings easier to judge on fit rather than a headline capacity or one ocean photograph.
