Restaurant wedding venues in Cape Town: make the meal the centre of the day

A restaurant wedding can suit a couple who wants the meal and conversation to lead the celebration. It still needs an event plan. Booking a private dinner does not automatically include a ceremony, a dance floor or exclusive use of the whole restaurant.

Greenhaus in Sunningdale: a published seated range

Greenhaus lists a minimum of 20 guests, a maximum of 65 seated and 100 for a cocktail-style event. Choose the correct limit for your meal; standing capacity is not permission to seat 100 for dinner.

It permits in-house catering only and no outside alcohol or beverages. Décor and entertainment are excluded from hire. The enquiry process asks about the level of exclusivity, so specify whether you need the entire venue or a reserved section. Tryn at Steenberg: pair the restaurant with a lawn ceremony

Steenberg advertises seated wedding receptions at Tryn for up to 50 and standing canapés for up to 100. The estate’s ceremony capacities are different: 40 on the Villa Lawn and 100 on the Manor Lawn. Match the ceremony and meal to the same guest list.

Ask what the reception includes, which restaurant area is reserved and whether music or dancing changes the layout. Check the route from the lawn and the indoor ceremony alternative so the outdoor setting does not become an unresolved dependency.

Beyond at Buitenverwachting: choose the extent of the booking

Beyond’s wedding page describes ceremonies on the Victorian-style Manor House steps overlooking the lawns and vines. Reception choices include a seated dinner or canapés, with bespoke menus and bar service.

It offers a private Harvest Area, the full restaurant or the entire farm by request. These are different bookings. The page does not publish a numeric capacity for each, so ask which option fits your guests and what other visitors may use during the event.

Ask for an event menu rather than assuming the usual menu

Request the meal format, courses, portions, dietary arrangements and service times. Confirm whether a tasting is available and whether it is included. A normal restaurant reservation and a private wedding menu may have different conditions and staffing.

• Ask whether there is a hire fee, minimum spend or both, and what counts towards the minimum.
• Include children, supplier meals, service charges, VAT and the drinks arrangement in the written quote.
• Check cake delivery, storage and serving arrangements, plus any charge for an outside cake.
• Confirm the music finish time, microphone setup and whether furniture can move for dancing.
• Name the booked area and hours, including supplier setup and cleanup access.

Check what surrounds the dinner

Decide where guests arrive, where the vows happen and what they do while photographs are taken. If those moments happen elsewhere, include travel and waiting time. Then compare the complete plan with a venue-and-caterer option using the same guest count and services.
