Small wedding venues in Cape Town for 20 to 50 guests

Three places to explore, honest guest limits and the questions worth asking before you book.

When you are looking at small wedding venues in Cape Town, your guest count is a good place to start. A wedding for 20 people can feel quite different from one for 50. You might want everyone around one table for lunch. You might want a ceremony in the garden and enough space to dance afterwards. It helps to have that picture in mind before you start looking at venues.

We have put together three places to explore in and around Cape Town. Greenhaus is in Sunningdale. Steenberg offers ceremonies on its lawns and receptions at Tryn. Lalapanzi Lodge is further out near Somerset West and caters for much smaller groups.

Their published guest limits are a useful place to start. You will still need to check how each venue would work for your wedding and whether your date is available.

Want help finding a smaller venue?

For a one-off R299, Vowspan personally researches three real Western Cape venues around both partners’ preferences and shared wedding brief. We contact venues for pricing, so you don’t have to.

Share your guest count, preferred area and the kind of celebration you both want. Confirm final availability, inclusions and booking terms directly with each venue.

Start your wedding planning

Start with your guest list. If you are hoping for 20 people but could end up inviting 50, settle on a likely number before you enquire. That difference could change which venues you consider.

Talk about what matters to each of you. Perhaps one of you wants to get married outside while the other wants a relaxed meal with family. Neither of you needs to have the whole day planned. You just need enough shared direction to recognise a place that could work.

Decide how far you are happy to travel and what you can comfortably spend. Remember to think about the journey home for your guests, especially if you are looking beyond the city.

Three small wedding venues in Cape Town and nearby

We checked the information below on the official venue websites on 4 October 2026. Details can change, so confirm the arrangements with the venue before making a booking.

Greenhaus in Sunningdale

Greenhaus is a restaurant venue with plenty of greenery. It advertises small weddings and lists a minimum of 20 guests and a maximum of 65 seated guests. A wedding for 20 to 50 people falls within that published range.

The venue handles the catering and does not allow outside alcohol or other beverages. You will need to arrange décor and entertainment separately, as these are not included in the venue hire.

When you enquire, explain whether you want a ceremony there as well as a meal. Ask how the space would be arranged and which hire option would give you the privacy you want.

See the Greenhaus venue details.

Lalapanzi Lodge near Somerset West

Lalapanzi Lodge offers wedding packages for 8 to 24 guests. It is worth considering if your list is around 20 people. If you are expecting more than 24, its advertised packages will not cover your group.

The lodge is on Wedderwill Estate near Somerset West, outside central Cape Town. Depending on the season and day of the week, you may need to book its rooms instead of paying a venue hire fee. This arrangement gives you exclusive use of the lodge.

That could appeal if you want to stay over with some of your guests. Ask which rooms you would need to book and for how many nights. Work out who would pay for the accommodation before comparing the cost with other venues.

Read about weddings at Lalapanzi Lodge and check the location.

Steenberg Farm and Tryn

Steenberg advertises seated wedding receptions at Tryn for up to 50 guests. Its Villa Lawn can accommodate a ceremony for up to 40 people. The Manor Lawn has a published ceremony limit of 100.

If you have 45 or 50 guests, you would need to ask about a ceremony space other than the Villa Lawn. The reception capacity and ceremony capacity are different, so check both before deciding the venue suits your numbers.

Ask which spaces would be reserved for you and where the ceremony could take place if the weather changes.

Get a clear picture of the cost

Fewer guests can mean fewer meals to pay for. It does not always mean a lower venue fee. Some venues have a minimum spend, while others may require accommodation bookings.

Give each venue the same guest count and explain the kind of celebration you want. This makes the quotes easier to compare.

Check whether furniture, staffing and cleaning are included. Ask about drinks and any service charges or VAT that still need to be added. It is also worth asking the venue to explain what you would need to organise yourself.

Before paying a deposit, read the cancellation terms and check how long a date can be held. If you want music and dancing, find out when the celebration would need to end. Ask about steps and access around the property if that could affect any of your guests.

If your search includes the Winelands, the small Stellenbosch guide separates indoor and outdoor places for smaller groups. For venues in the northern suburbs and nearby countryside, compare the Durbanville options and ask for the minimum guest count.
