Stellenbosch
Small wedding venues in Stellenbosch for an intimate celebration
Three places to explore, with indoor and outdoor limits kept separate and practical questions for smaller groups.

A small wedding in Stellenbosch might mean a meal for 24, a ceremony for 40 or a reception for 60. Those groups need different spaces. Begin with the likely number and the day you want, rather than a venue’s largest advertised capacity.
Lovane, Blaauwklippen and The Salene each publish useful information about smaller spaces. The examples below separate indoor places, outdoor places and ceremony settings. None is a confirmed booking or a promise of a low price.
Find a venue that works for both of you
For R299 once-off, Vowspan personally researches three real Western Cape venues around both partners’ preferences and shared wedding brief. We contact venues for pricing, so you don’t have to.
Use the guide below to decide what matters, then share your guest count, preferred area and budget with us.
Three smaller spaces to investigate
Official pages checked on 14 October 2026. Ask each venue for the minimum guest count or spend, the seated layout and the ceremony arrangement. A published maximum alone does not confirm that your group can book the space.
Lovane: up to 30 indoors, with outdoor places separately
Lovane’s functions page explicitly welcomes small weddings. It lists a maximum of 30 guests inside and an additional 20 when the patio and deck are used. The extra places are outside; they are not evidence that 50 guests can all sit indoors in bad weather.
Hire includes tables, wooden chairs, linen napkins, cutlery, crockery and glassware. For a dinner for 24 or 30, request the proposed indoor seating plan and where the ceremony would happen. For 40 or 50, ask what happens if the outdoor places cannot be used.
See Lovane’s official functions information.
Blaauwklippen: ask for the particular room
Blaauwklippen’s venue-hire page lists the Tasting House at 60 indoors. It also describes Barrel Rooms with up to 24 guests per room or 48 combined. Those are different spaces with different layouts, not a single flexible capacity figure.
The estate markets weddings alongside other events. Ask whether your chosen room is offered for your wedding format, how a ceremony is arranged and whether its quoted capacity leaves room for dancing. A room suited to a seated family meal may be less suitable for a band and dance floor.
Explore Blaauwklippen’s official room descriptions. Confirm what exclusive use means while the estate’s other activities continue.
The Salene: a 60-person outdoor setting and a separate hall
The Salene in Devon Valley describes Luna as a garden setting for ceremonies or an al fresco reception, with a capacity of 60. Its separate Moët reception hall accommodates up to 200. The larger indoor hall does not make the outdoor setting weatherproof.
Ask whether an indoor arrangement for your smaller group can be reserved as the alternative, what it costs and whether it would be ready before guests arrive. If you prefer an outdoor meal, ask to see the serving and lighting plan as well as the ceremony layout.
See The Salene’s official wedding spaces and package links.
Match the room to the way you will use it
- For around 24: Lovane’s indoor maximum and Blaauwklippen’s stated Barrel Room size are starting points. Confirm ceremony use, minimums and the actual tables.
- For around 40: Lovane’s published indoor limit is too small for everyone inside. Ask about a fully sheltered plan elsewhere rather than treating the patio as indoor seating.
- For around 60: investigate the Tasting House or Luna’s stated limit, but confirm the wedding layout, dance floor and alternative before relying on the headline number.
Make a smaller celebration feel intentional
Describe the meal and energy you want: one long table, several short tables, lunch with family or an evening with dancing. Ask for recent photographs of a similar guest count in the exact room you would book. A styled photograph without guests does not show how the room feels in use.
Check the space between tables and how guests reach the toilets, bar and ceremony. Keeping everyone close should not mean narrowing the routes guests and staff need.
Check minimums before comparing prices
Ask for a quote at your actual count, including any minimum spend and exclusivity charge. The Stellenbosch cost guide covers the full bill separately. For a different area, our small Cape Town guide keeps the same focus on the spaces your group can use.
